Rugby Referee clinic

The shortage of referees is a perennial problem for both adult clubs and Youth Rugby Organizations (YROs) particularly at the lower level YRO games. The USA Rugby Level One Referee Course is the entry level course for referee training and qualifications in the USA.

Consistent with its stated goal of “Supporting Youth Rugby,” SRF wishes to help alleviate the YRO referee shortage. To this purpose SRF is proposing to fully fund the attendance of 20 potential referees associated with, and selected/nominated by their YROs to attend the USA Rugby Level One Referee Course described in the title. Those selected/nominated may be youths (older than 14yrs) or adults but must be associated with a YRO and selected/nominated to SRF by that YRO.

SRF will fund the expenses of such courses ($100 per participant) to a maximum of $2000. In sponsoring the attendance at this course, SRF hopes and expects that those sponsored for the course will step up to the plate and use their new-found skills to referee games at their YRO, especially at lower levels, which the Referee Society often does not have the resources to cover. 

To assure equitable access SRF will fund a maximum of 3 attendees per YRO. 

Requirements for the course and the funding:

USA Rugby Course:

• Go to the USA Rugby website and select “Referee Courses. ”The date/time and location will be given.
• Must be in good standing with USA Rugby CIPP.
• Complete the online pre-course requirements as described on the USA Rugby website (Law questions, Safety course, Concussion awareness course).
• Complete the USA Rugby registration and pay the $75 registration fee.
• Complete the course in its entirety.

Reimbursement Method:

On completion of the course attendees SRF will refund the full course fee of $75, by check.

This information likely will reach several members of your YRO. Please peruse the distribution list and coordinate with other in your YRO who have received the information so that SRF receives a single application for these free courses. 

SRF Funding: 

Attendees must be selected/nominated by the YRO with which they are associated. Up to 20 attendees, 3 attendees per YRO, will be accepted. In the case that the applicants exceed 20, funding will be prioritized based on earliest registration for the course.
